For years, Frank Peters had been looking for a way to conveniently provide a stand for his hunting dog, Kate. The wade-in areas near Carlyle Lake and the backwaters of the Kaskaskia River in Southern Illinois are prime duck hunting areas. Frank, a lifelong hunter and avid outdoorsman, put together the first Sportstand.

Soon, word was spreading about this Sportstand idea of Frank's. Frank continued refining the design over the years. More and more hunters became interested and intrigued.  Close friends even convinced Frank to make one for them.

It quickly became apparent that this was a great idea, and after five-plus years of testing and use, a patent was sought and issued. Prototyping continued in support of manufacturing the Sportstand. The product has a simple, robust design.
